Sports arbitrage betting (arbs or surebets) works by exploiting the different odds offered by different bookmakers around the world. It’s completely legal and won’t even get you on the wrong side of the bookmakers as they will still make profit according to the own equations. It’s the closest thing to risk free betting you will get!
How does it work?
An arbitrage occurs when the difference in two bookmakers is significant enough that you can back all the outcomes on a sporting event and secure a risk free profit, no matter what the outcome.
An example of an arb bet offered by Arbets.com is as follows
Sport: Tennis
Match: Igor Andreev vs Richard Gasquet
Time: 6-Jan-08 9:53 pm
Total Stake: £1000
Profit: 58.49%
Bookmakers: Pinnacle & Ladbrokes
Bet for Igor Andreev
Bookmaker: Pinnacle
Odd: 3.360
Stake: £472
Possible Winnings: £1585.92
Bet for Richard Gasquet
Bookmaker: Ladbrokes
Odd: 3.000
Stake: £528
Possible Winnings: £1584.00
Profit £584.90
Here we can see the Pinnacle were offering odds of 3.360 for Igor Andreev to win and Ladbrokes were offering odds of 3.000 for Richard Gasquet to win. If you correctly stake your investment as shown then you are certain of winning £1584, a profit of £584 on your original money.
This was a real example sent out to all members of Arbets.com . Here a correctly staked investment of £1000 was turned into a guaranteed profit of £584.90. £1000 is a lot, however if you had staked only £100 you would have had a guaranteed return of £58.49.
Arbets.com offers several calculation tools that show you the bets to make and how much to stake to achieve your profit.
So what are the risks?
Well, in theory there are none. However in practice you are dealing with money and gambling so there will always be some small risk – In arbitrage sports betting this risk is as low as it will get. Any loss of money is often down to mistakes made by careless bettors.
·Placing the wrong bet/dawdling – Small accidents in this system can cost a lot of money. When dealing with different bookmakers, different but similar odds, mistakes can happen. Also if you place one bet and take too long to place the next one then the odds may have changed enough to render the odds out of your favour. The solution to both of these problems is to plan your bets in advance, make sure you have plenty of time and be in place that is devoid of any distractions. Arbets.com has a full list of ways to avoid this problem.
·Differing bookmaker rules – bookmakers will have different rules for unforeseen events, such as cancelation and postponement. So will refund your money and some will hold onto it until the event has finished, this can lead to you holding a bet with all the risk. The way to resolve this is to research your bookmakers and only stake like with like.
·Inexperience – This is something that is the same for everyone. You will have to accept that if you want to invest your money in this way then there will be a learning curve that you will have to overcome. To start it is suggested that you spend some time going through the motions. Putting everything in place but without actually staking any money. Next build up to small bets and once you are comfortable with that then move on to larger money. Remembering all the time that little mistakes can cost you money so care is of the essence.
How much can I make?
This is really up to you and the amount of time and money you wish to spend on this. As is true with everything the more you invest the more you will make. A lot of the arbs that you will get from Arbets.com will only offer returns of around 2% however you can set a filter so that you will only be alerted by arbs of 10-15%+ or even higher. These higher bets obviously aren’t as frequent but do offer large returns on your investment. In short there is no limit to what you can make and you will never be barred from using a certain bookmaker for winning too much or anything silly. Why? Because you won’t win too much at a single bookmakers, in fact you will lose a lot of money at a lot of bookmakers, however this will compensated by the amount you win from other bookmakers.
